Project: Advanced Wastewater Clarification for Dairy Operations
Status: Published Research (2026)
The Challenge: Industrial dairy operations struggle to efficiently manage manure wastewater and meet safety standards for final disinfection.
The Water Innovation: We developed and tested a specialized PAC–CPAM dual-flocculant pretreatment system.
The Practical Impact: This system successfully removes up to 98% of suspended solids and 95% of E. coli, transforming highly contaminated wastewater into a state that enables reliable, cost-effective UV-C disinfection.
Project: SB 1383 Compliance & Biogas Compatibility
Status: In Preparation
The Challenge: California's strict SB 1383 mandates require aggressive organic waste reduction, forcing facilities to rethink how they handle solids.
The Water Innovation: We are quantifying whether chemically clarified dairy solids retain their methane potential for anaerobic digestion.
The Practical Impact: This research will provide facility managers with the exact data they need to maximize their renewable energy (biogas) infrastructure while staying fully compliant with state laws.
Untitled design (3)
Project: UV-C Disinfection Engineering for Agriculture
Status: In Preparation
The Challenge: Engineers often have to rely on guesswork or oversized, expensive equipment when sizing UV disinfection systems for complex agricultural wastewater.
The Water Innovation: We are developing first-of-their-kind dose–response curves specifically for clarified dairy manure wastewater.
The Practical Impact: This removes the guesswork. It equips engineers with the precise design curves needed to confidently and efficiently size UV systems, saving operators significant capital on equipment and energy costs.
